Rarotonga Sports
There is a wide range of sports enjoyed on the Cook Islands and Rarotonga is no exception. Water sports are particularly popular because of the warm climate. During your trip to Rarotonga, there's no better time to try surfing, windsurfing, sailing or diving.
Water Sports
Just down the road from Sea Change Villas is the famous Muri Lagoon. This is the centre for sailing, wind surfing and the new sport of sail surfing. Personal tuition in sailing catamarans and wind surfers is a great way to get started if you haven't tried it before. Drop in on Saturdays and you are more than likely to get a crew position on one of the two or three man dinghy race boats. Or if that is not you, why not have a cool drink on the deck at the Sailing Club and sit back and watch the remote control boat racing. A lot of fun.
Golf
If golf is your game even if you are only a casual golfer, don't miss out on enjoying the nine holes at the Rarotongan Golf Club. The club is open six days a week from 8am and you can hire a half set of clubs and green fees from NZD$30.00. The club
house is ideal for that cool drink after a warm round of golf.
Tennis
The Rarotongan and Edgewater Resorts have tennis courts available for hire including a range of quality rental equipment i.e. rackets, balls and shoes.
Squash
The Rarotongan Squash Club has two courts available six days a week but you would need to bring your own equipment.
Bowling
The Rarotongan Bowling Club boasts an international standard bowling green. Saturday is roll up day when all visitors are welcome. Starting time is from 10am and 1pm with white dress code required. A mufti dress is from 4pm, Monday to Friday. Green fees are NZD$1.00 as are the hire balls. They also boast a licensed bar for refreshments.
Horse Treks
Horse riding is a great way to see the island. Whether you have never been on a horse in your life or are an experienced rider you will thoroughly enjoy a two hour pony trek. Riding trails pass through tropical plantations up to Wigmores Waterfall where there is time for a swim before cantering (optional) along the white sand beaches to home.
Walking/Jogging
Rarotonga has no snakes, wild animals or poisonous insects which makes it ideal for exploring. Walking or jogging the many tracks and roads of Rarotonga is very popular for visitors to the island. Don't forget your walking or jogging shoes.
