ISLAND NIGHTS ON RAROTONGA
A very special highlight and 'must do'of your stay on Rarotonga will be to experience an Island night blending together a traditional Cook Island feast with traditional Cook Island dancing.
The feast, known as the umakai involves baking food in an umu (underground oven), a deep pit filling with red hot stones. Chicken, pork, fish, vegetables are placed in the umu, covered with banana leaves and earth and left to steam to keep in all the natural juices of the food (kai).
After eating the feast, guests will be enteratined by a dance group, dancing, singing and drumming of traditional Cook Island song and dance.
